    - Zelda is really great, probably the best one since Ocarina of Times.

    - Mario Kart is really great and is definitely a family game : my wife did not played with me on such games until Mario Kart and the Wii in general. The Wii wheel is great for people not used to video games. Also the Network connection makes this game endless and probably the best one on the Wii.

    - Mario Galaxy (or Universe) is really nice for both grown up and children. You can play two person at a time, but this is not really fun.

I would add in your list Super Mario Smash Bross Brawl which is really fun when playing with others. However the network connection is not as good as the Mario Kart one.

    Have fun !

Twilight Princess was the greatest 40 hours of my life. I haven’t played the Mario Cart for the Wii yet, but all the other systems had good Mario Carts. I also really enjoyed Super Mario Galaxy (I think what you’re calling Universe?).

If you’re looking for family games only, then there are some really good party games like Mario Party 8 or Super Monkey Ball. Not sure the age group of your family, but Super Smash Brothers Brawl is amazingly fun. Definitely need multiplayer here, could be a little violent for small children (but no more violent than a Zelda game, in my opinion … no blood in either games). Wii Fit is also good family fun (even good single player).

If you’re looking for fun single player games like Zelda, then Metroid Prime 3 was really good. You’ve also got the entire Gamecube library available to you, so you could play the old Metroid Primes if you haven’t yet. (I’d recommend getting a couple used Gamecube controllers for this).

Plus there’s the Wii Virtual Console (another place where the gamecube controllers come in handy). It has pretty much every *popular* NES, SNES, and N64 game, including past Zeldas and Marios. I bet you I use my Wii more playing Virtual Console games than playing actual Wii games. The games are cheap ($5, $8, and $10 respectively) and I can go back and play all the old classics.

Avoid Wii Play and WarioWare. The Wario: Shake It! is supposed to be good, haven’t played yet.

Mario Party, Mario Kart, and Tiger Wood Golf are the big hits around here. Wii Sports used to be big but we don’t play it as often since we’re kind of played out on it. We still pop it in now and then though :)

If you have enough room and money ($400+), buy Guitar Hero with the complete set.

Some great games for the Wii that the whole family can enjoy:

    Boom Blox
    Rayman Raving Rabbids
    De Blob
    World of Goo

Some more “traditional” games for the Wii:

    Super Mario Galaxy
    Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
    Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros’ Treasure
